On September 17, 2019, Professor Bart van Arem and Mr. Serge van Dam from Netherlands, had an academic exchange with THU-LEAD team at Room 300, Heshanheng Building, chaired by Professor Meng Li.

Bart van Arem is the Full Professor of Transport Modeling, Deputy Chair Department Transport & Planning and Director of the Technische Universiteit Delft Transport Institute. His research interests passionately evolve around the use of mathematical models to study how transport systems change under the influence of automated and connected vehicles. In his report entitled “Smart Mobility at TU Delft”, he reviewed how the TU Delft Transport Institute organizes the TU Delft research on smart mobility across different faculties and disciplines. In particular, he focused on the analysis, modeling and predicting smart mobility in densely populated areas using a research by design approach. And then, Principal Advisor Transport Management of Rijkswaterstaat, Mr. Serge van Dam talked about the challenges under automated and connected traffic environment, from the perspective of traffic manager and road operator.

After that, Research Assistant Xi Lin from THU-LEAD, Associate Professor Quan Yuan from School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University, and Jingchen Dai from Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University, introduced the research directions and contents of their groups respectively. And research corporation has been discussed.
